Although Spanish chef extraordinaire Ferran Adria closed his El Bulli restaurant in Catalonia after maintaining three Michelin stars for more than a decade, many still consider him the world’s finest and most innovative chef. However, the price tag on a private dinner for four at an auction in Hong Kong this week is a bit hard to swallow.
An anonymous bidder paid more than $28,000 for the privilege of dining with Adria and his brother, while three lucky guests will also be invited. Adria says the proceeds will go to the El Bulli foundation, intended to promote culinary experimentation and innovation. So it seems there is more yet to come from the chef to bolster his legacy of “molecular gastronomy”.
It does present a unique opportunity to discuss food and cooking with the master chef over his own creations. If you don’t think that $28,000 for a dinner for four is excessive, you may yet have a chance: Sotheby’s will be auctioning another meal with Ferran Adria on 26th April 2013 in New York City.
