Hamilton Island has announced the next weekend dates of this year’s Great Barrier Feast ‘Chef’s Table’, 23rd – 25th July 2010, featuring the Sydney Morning Herald’s Chef of the Year 2009, Justin North.
This prestigious event is the second in a three-weekend series designed to showcase not only Australia’s finest food and wine, but also the stunning Whitsunday setting of Hamilton Island. Former Australian MasterChef presenter, Sarah Wilson, is emcee for the series and James Halliday is selecting the wines. The event will take place across two of the Island’s premier venues – qualia and the new Hamilton Island Yacht Club and will consist of:
• A beachside welcome dinner at qualia, by the resort’s executive chef, Jane-Therese Mulry. Jane-Therese is herself an acclaimed chef and was appointed Marco Pierre White’s first female Head Chef when she was working in his London kitchens
• An Electrolux Master class, providing exclusive cooking instruction by Justin
• A Veuve Clicquot Lunch at the Yacht Club, offering the opportunity for guests to find out more about the chef
• A showpiece dinner at qualia in which Justin will take guests through the preparation of his culinary delights directly from the kitchen. This will be visible to guests through a live camera link-up
Sydney-based Justin has enjoyed a meteoric rise in kitchens across his native New Zealand, Australia and Europe, becoming Raymond Blanc’s youngest ever 2nd Sous Chef at the age of 22. His Bécasse Restaurant has evolved into one of Sydney’s premier dining spaces with its emphasis on local ingredients and modern French cuisine (see Justin North biography at end of release).
The Great Barrier Feast has cultivated a reputation as one of Australia’s most intimate and prestigious food and wine events. An annual fixture in the Hamilton Island calendar, The Great Barrier Feast undertook a new three-weekend format for 2010. The third and final weekend is set to take place in November.
