If you like camping or mini adventures then you know how annoying it can be when you are cold, tired and uncomfortable because your sleeping apparatus isn't up to scratch. We all know that a good, warm night's sleep makes all the difference to the experience and gives you that needed energy boost for your next day's activities. So don't keep using your old sleeping equipment, start thinking about updating them with seriously cool new fabrics that put to shame anything prior to that because soon long gone will be the days of a damp cold night in the woods, up a mountain or in a festival.

Camping is becoming a massive pass time now we are getting back into the outdoors and with the addition of festivals we are seeing a massive increase in updated and modernised camping equipment. Each has advantages and disadvantages but these newly updated fabric compounds are all designed to keep you extra warm so there is no fear anymore of a cold night.

Another thing to think of is design; this is where you can get really creative with it. Just like the fabrics, the design of sleeping bags has changed dramatically! You can now get some really funky shapes, original models and some great patterns, no longer do you simply pick from dark blue or black. There is the mummy bag, the hooded bag, the original and the double all to pick from and even combinations of all three like the musuc bag. The closer fitting a sleeping bag, the warmer it will be so a good shape to look for is a tapered one. An adjustable sleeping bag hood is a cool accessory and practical as much heat is lost through the head. However on a comfort level, never forget you need to be able to stretch out and curl up in, rather than be stuck in one that feels like a strait-jacket.

Before buying a sleeping bag you should strongly consider exactly what you will need it for and if it's suitable for you! This can depend on the type of trip or adventure you are thinking of embarking on or the kind of situations you see yourself using it in. Though for instance, if you only need a sleeping bag for purposes of cleanliness when staying at hostels etc, you don't need to send much cash on it unless you really want to of course. On the other hand, if you are going for some light mountaineering as one does, or are travelling to some remote destination like Timbuktu on a research trip, you should lean towards a sleeping bag that stands up to more extreme elements, this also works for festivals...the most extreme frontier of all!
