Virgins latest conquest

TIME : 2016/2/26 18:09:14

We're not sure whether Richard Branson does it for his own globetrotting pleasure, but his Virgin Limited Edition portfolio of hotels and lodges - including Necker Island in the Caribbean, The Lodge in Verbier and Kasbah Tamadot in Morocco - has managed to nab some of the most picturesque spots on the planet.

And he's done it again at the recently opened Mahali Mzuri, in the heart of the Maasai Mara in Kenya, where wildlife abounds and guests can find themselves with a front-row seat at the Great Migration, when millions of wildebeest move from the Serengeti to the greener pastures of the Maasai Mara.

Located between the Olare Orok and Motorogi conservancies, about 240 kilometres (or an hour's flight) west of Nairobi, the boutique Mahali Mzuri hosts a maximum of 24 guests in 12 tented suites, furnished with four-poster beds, clawfoot baths, leather sofas and eclectic African contemporary and tribal art.

Activities include early-morning and late-afternoon game drives in the camp's customised four-wheel-drive Land Cruisers to spot lions, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, topi antelope (which are native to this region) and a plethora of birdlife.

Night game drives are offered, as are guided safari walks and full-day four-wheel-drive expeditions (with picnic lunch provided) to explore the 13,500 hectares of awe-inspiring landscape that surrounds the camp.

And when the game viewing or pool lounging get too much, you can retire to the secluded spa for soothing treatments using Africology ethical skincare products which capture the rejuvenating and healing essences of the African bush.

From $US590 per person per night (twin share). See mahalimzuri.virgin.com.
