Where to stay in Cape Town - accommodation for all tastes and budgets

Cape Town has a diverse range of accommodation options, which suitable match the cliché that there is something for everyone. Hip, urban boutique hotels rival quaint bed and breakfasts and large hotel chains for business, as each offers a unique way in which to experience everything that the city has to offer.

Cape Town city center

The Cape Town city center is often considered the beating heart of the city, and many will argue that this heart beats to a rhythm provided by the large number of bars and clubs that populate many street corners. It’s a vibey, fast-paced environment that provides direct access to what many consider the true soul of the city. Despite what many locals will consider to be a somewhat frenetic world, the Cape Town city center still has a small-town charm, and quiet enclaves away from the hedonist hub of Long Street provide equally convenient locations without the hustle and bustle of big city life.

V&A Waterfront

The V&A Waterfront is still considered the reserve of the wealthy tourist, and with the likes of the One&Only and Cape Grace, both award winning luxury hotels, it’s a reputation well deserved. There are a number of hotels in the region which cater to this market, and during peak times rates are high and accommodation scarce. The convenience factor is hard to dispute, however, and with many hotels located on the water’s edge, or with dramatic mountain views, it’s often a price worth paying.

Atlantic Seaboard

Stretching south west along the coast from the V&A Waterfront is the Atlantic Seaboard, home to the likes of Greenpoint, Sea Point, Fresnaye, Clifton and Camps Bay. This is the millionaire’s mile of Cape Town, where exclusive guest houses, lodges and hotels spoil guest with surreal ocean vistas and unsurpassed luxury. Look between the extravagant and you’ll find competitively priced bed and breakfasts, backpackers and lodges, all of which still afford you the accolade of being able to say you spent time along one of the world’s most sublime coastlines.

Cape Winelands

Spreading out from the central Cape Town region are a number of superb retreats, particularly in the likes of the Franschhoek and Stellenbosch wine regions. These quiet country towns afford close proximity to the country’s top wine estates, and many choose to spend a night or two away from the bustle of the city, relaxing with a few bottles of wine in the most convenient of locations for true grape lovers.
