All over town, local people eat out at the many street stalls serving basic, delicious and very cheap dishes. Siem Reap is crammed with restaurants and bars, from local eateries and the food courts at the markets and malls to vegetarian, Indian and other speciality venues.
Many hotels have in-house restaurants catering mainly for tourists and expat residents, serving Chinese, Japanese, Korean and European dishes as well as the usual hotel fare. At the top of the range, both in quality and price, are the upscale restaurants aimed at wealthy foreigners.
Hungry visitors will find an amazing choice of cuisines in this popular area. Pub Street and its alleyways are alive with restaurants, cafés and bars serving everything from Khmer food through Vietnamese, German, Italian, Chinese, stylish upscale French and even burgers and pizzas.
Restaurants around Wat Bo, on the east bank of the river opposite the French Quarter, provide a choice of cheap, mid-range and more pricey dining opportunities, ranging from Mediterranean cuisine to vegetarian, fusion, Indian, Thai and Khmer.
The hotels on the Angkor Wat access road and the many restaurants in the immediate vicinity serve a variety of international and visitor-aimed dishes as well as local Khmer cuisine. The quality and variety is good, but prices are higher than in town due to the crowds of captive eaters who invade the area daily.
To the south of the Old French Quarter is the Old Market, with its food court and street stalls serving a huge variety of Khmer dishes at economic prices - perfect for a quick lunch after shopping. In the surrounding area a good selection of restaurants serve everything from fast food to Indian and Khmer specialities.
