If a restaurant doesn't add a service charge then a tip of around 10 to 15 percent is acceptable.
The Indonesian rupiah (Rp) is the local currency used in Bali. There are countless foreign money exchanges around the island, with the majority being in the major tourist towns. Most large hotels will also change money and there are exchange booths at the international airport.
Travelers will need local currency for small purchases at bars, shops and restaurants. ATMs are widely available and accept international cards for a small charge. Credit cards can be used at large hotels and most stores in the modern shopping malls.
Bali experiences a tropical climate with three main seasons throughout the year; the cool season from December to February, the hot season from March to June and the wet season from July to November. The wet season generally sees heavy rainfall during the night or early evening but it does not affect vacation activities much.
The hot season is extreme and travelers visiting during this time should keep well hydrated and plan to be indoors during the middle of the day. The most popular and comfortable time to visit Bali is during the so-called cool season, which is still warm enough to enjoy water activities although night-time temperature dips slightly.
Public transport in Bali consists of buses, minivans and local rickshaws. Some taxis are available from the airport and in the capital city, Denpasar. Transport is generally inexpensive although it's advised to agree on a price before travel to avoid any unnecessary problems. Car hire and motorbike rental is available and provides a good way to explore the island at your leisure.
Bali International Airport (DPS) is located in the south of the island and there is an abundance of taxis, minivans and buses awaiting arriving travelers. Most hotels offer a pick-up service so it's worth checking before you depart home.
