Out of all the places in Bali it is definitely the eastern part of the island I enjoy visiting and exploring. Apart from the usual tourist spots such as Tirtagangga the east is relatively untouched by the ‘tourism hand’. East Bali is sometimes referred to as the Real Bali by foreign visitors. Here you will find volcanoes, rice fields, sweeping bays, crashing waves, Balinese villages, water-palaces and a choice of great accommodation ranging from budget Balinese-style homestays to top-of-the-line luxury resorts.
To really enjoy the culture and outstanding scenery and if you are averse to tourist buses and organised trips, then I would recommend hiring a car or even a motorbike. The eastern part of Bali is not as far as most people think. For instance, it’s only a two hour leisurely drive from Kuta to Candi Dasa on the coast. The traffic is reasonable although the new coastal highway can get busy at times.
The best solution is to organise a few places where you can stay overnight and spend a few days exploring the magnificence and all the beauty that ease Bali has to offer. To assist you in this venture I have added some links to articles on the various places you can visit in East Bali.
