A University colleague of mine rang me on Friday quite dismayed at the fact he could not obtain a flight to Bali and wondered if I could do anything. As if I am a travel agent!. Anyway, I rang my friend at Garuda Indonesia and was told that even though flight bookings had been heavy the situation was being addressed and was told that my colleague would have no problem obtaining a flight this week coming. I couldn’t understand why Garuda was so busy but in fact they are and a couple of the factors being the excellent package deals being offered and the other, the fantastic exchange rate for the Australian dollar at this time. Of course the other airlines servicing Bali have also been quite busy and this is good to see especially for the Balinese who suffered a slump in business due to previous unfortunate occurrences that deterred people from going to the island. Now, the inbound traveller figures are outstanding and reminds me of the tourist boom time of the late 80’s and 90’s when Bali was so busy you virtually needed traffic lights on the footpaths.
