Blue Ocean beach is located at the end of Jl. Double Six in Legian was a hive of activity today. The beach is high density tourists and expats, all out for a slice of fun in the sun, with some drinks, waves and eye-candy thrown in. Along the way to Blue Ocean beach you’ll locals enjoying the late afternoon in their own ways, including playing chess, a popular game in Indonesia. Parking is available for car where Jl. Double Six meets the beach, but to enter the beach strip you’ll have to pay 2,000rp and 1,000rp for motorbikes. One of the first things you’ll notice on the beach after the parking attendants in the gay volleyball pit. Plenty of sweaty bodies diving around for those interested. Further down the street mobile snack vendors churn out bakso (spicy meatball soup) and other local favourites. These are served in small bowls and eaten at the edge of the beach or under a tree.
Tourists of course head for the beachside restaurants which include Lanai, Zanzibar and Blue Ocean. All these places do good business and knock out good food. Blue Ocean has live music some nights of the week. DeJaVu’s new structure is impressive, situated next to the old one and in front of a massive villa development. DeJaVu isn’t open in the afternoon, but will be hopping late night. The beach scene is frantic this time of year. Sunny days brings out the tourists and expats, who take time out to chat with friends, enjoy a drink or game of backgammon, in the hours before sunset. On the beach itself dozens of sun shades and small drink stalls provide a handy get-to-know-you area for locals and tourists. Just slide up and introduce yourself and in no time you’ll have some brand new friends. Personally I prefer a place with comfortable seats, some shade and a working toilet.
Blue Ocean beach is a cool chill out spot on a sunny day in Bali.
