Bali is loaded with quality restaurants and in an effort to showcase these, The Bali Tourism Board, has teamed up with, Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC), Bali Hotel Association, Bali Culinary Professionals and Garuda Indonesia for a month-long food festival.
Entitled ‘The Bali Dining Festival 2007‘ the event kicks off on August 1st and is divided into 4 sections: the main section – The Passport to Delight – allows visitors to experience special menus at all participating venues. The Culinary Safaris take guests on a tour of three or four restaurants with ‘starters’ in one, main courses in the next and dessert in the last! The Chefs Master Classes allow visitors to learn to cook in some of the best chef’s kitchens and last but not least, the festival finishes with island-wide Gala Dinners on 31st August!
For people on a budget its possible to do your own food festival. Breakfast of Bananas would see you munch down 4 steaming hot pisang goreng for 1,000rp at a local market. Nasi Nasi Nasi might be a selection of nasi bungkus (take away rice meals) packets from roving vendors at 2,000rp a pop. Dinner on a Stick would see you get 10 sticks of chicken sate, peanut sauce and longtong (rolled rice) for 7,000rp. Just Deserts would include a selection of Bali deserts (bananas and ice cream served any way you can think of).
The budget day out would cost around 15,000rp. For those with more ‘green’ in their wallet, check out the website for The Bali Dining Festival 2007 and plan your experience.
