About 10 days ago I met a super guy from Canada named Allen. He is out here for a few weeks, and told me surf the Great Lakes back home!
How do you surf a lake, I thought? Allen said the waves are wind driven and when its blowing a gale, around 60 mph, blizzard conditions, you can get 6ft waves. He told me that they get a window of opportunity from when the blizzards begin, to when the lake starts to freeze! Sounds like an opportunity to move to a warmer country to me, but these type of guys are hard core. There’s no fear of getting sunburnt surfing the Great Lakes in Canada, although the chance of someone finding you and board inside an iceberg next spring, is a possibility.
Bringing my camera along, I got so excited from talking with him, I forgot to use it. Hope to catch up with Allen before he leaves.
