Bali organized a tsunami drill today, on the 2nd anniversary of the Indian Ocean tsunami, that killed 170,000-220,000 people, depending on who you believe.
The drill was part of a regional tsunami awareness movement. There have been efforts to set up a n Indian Ocean tsunami warning system, and the first version was launched in June 2006. It involves a series of tsunami information centers, relaying information, of an impending disaster. The logistics of how to get that to locals is the problem. Today, thousands of people went to the beach in Bali, to practice the tsunami evacuation drill.
Its all good, and I reckon getting the system to fire off SMS warnings is the way to go, since 3everyone has a phone.
