(This is the second time I wrote this post, my machine crapped out!)
Land and visas are 2 of the biggest worries for expats in Bali. Tonight I had dinner with some friends, who told me that foreigners can own land freehold, and people married to a local, will be able to get a Resident visa soon.
Land in Bali is something I don’t know much about. My friends (1 Indonesian and 1 bule), insisted there was a legal way for a bule to own land freehold. It sounded like a rental agreement to me, but anyway, I’m just reporting what I hear.
Also, according to my friends, a foreigner who is married to a local will soon be able to get a Resident visa, straight away, work permit and all, without the 5 years on KITAS. Who knows, this may start a market in fake Bali marriages, for all the useless surf rats, who just want to hang out in Bali, till the next swell.
