A trip to Bali wouldn’t be the same without sending your family a postcard. The most popular brand is Periplus. When I came to Bali in 1993, I mailed cards that are still being sold today, although Periplus does have a good collection of attractive cards. One of the photographers for Periplus is Rio Helmi, who has a great book on interior design (Bali Style).
One thing about postcards I notice is a lot of them are taken in strong light. Most decent photographers, hate taking photos in strong light, and prefer early morning or dusk. The thing the tourists want is a big bright image, that they can send to their friends. Sand, sea, palm trees, blue sky. Toss in a few pretty ladies in sarongs and off you go!
Today at Bintang I picked up 6 cards at 3,000rp each. Hope I can brighten somebody’s day overseas.
