Chiba prefecture is offering free round-trip highway buses from Narita Airport to various locations in the area including Tateyama, Kamogawa and Choshi. Buses depart 4 times a day and the service runs from August 17th to September 30th, 2015. The buses stop near many scenic and historic spots. Check out Sawara, known as Little Edo by many, on the Choshi route. Kamogawa Seaworld on the Kamogawa route and the lovely beaches around Tateyama City including Hojo Beach which is said to have one of the loveliest sunsets in Japan, on the Tateyama route.
You will need to make a reservation online at http://www.chibustory.jp/en/ to guarantee a spot on the free highway bus but you can check with bus staff at Narita on the same day if there are any unreserved seats available. Most of the information on the site is in Japanese but there is a pdf pamphlet online which gives a great overview of the stops and some of the sites to see at http://www.chibustory.jp/doc/pamphlet_en.pdf.
Before heading off to Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, spend some time in Chiba, it truly is a lovely experience off the beaten path for most foreign tourists! Hats off to Chiba government tourism organization for offering this service!
