One of the symbols of Kawagoe is the Toki no Kane Bell Tower 時の鐘. It was originally built between 1624 and 1644, but the present tower was erected after a great fire in the city, and dates from 1894.
The 16-meter (over 52 feet) wooden structure stands 3 stories tall and the bell rings daily at 6 am, 12 pm, 3 pm, and 6 pm. The tower has been telling time to the residents of Kawagoe for 350 years.
It is located in the Kurazukuri district of merchant houses, so be sure to stop by for a photo when you are in the area.
