“Infiorata” means “spreading flowers all over” in Italy, and the Infiorata Kobe 2014 event creates beautiful picturesque designs on roads and in open squares using flower petals. Infiorata has been held in various cities in Europe and was held in Japan in Kobe, Hyōgo Prefecture for the first time in 1997 after the city that was damaged in the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake.

The event started with a hope that the beauty and colour of nature would bring life and hope to the damaged city. Now marking its 18th anniversary this year, the event has established itself as Kobe’s true symbol of spring bringing a dazzling array of tulip petal colours to the city.
