Kume Island (久米島, Kumejima /Okinawan: クミジマ Kumijima) is one of the larger islands in Okinawa prefecture. Historically, the island was a trading outpost for the Ryukyu Kingdom with regular contact with Japan and China.
Now it is a popular tourist destination with several all-inclusive resorts, beautiful beaches and forests, castle ruins, and cultural attractions.
There are a wide variety of tours and programs available for the tourist, including hiking, sport fishing, and diving. Bade House is an attractive spa on Oo Island, which is a small island connected by bridge to Kume Island. Eef Beach is an attractive area with white sand beaches, shops, and hotels, making it an excellent base for a visit to the island.

It is easy to get around Kume Island. Most hotels offer shuttle services and will assist with getting guests to areas of interest. It is possible to rent cars, scooters, and bikes so you can travel on your own.
There is a bus system that serves most of the popular tourist locations. Kume Island is located about 100 kilometers (Just over 62 miles) north of Naha. It can be reached by ferry, which runs twice a day from Naha. Two airlines, Japanese Transocean Air and Ryukyu Air Commuter operate six flights daily between Kumejima and Naha. In the summer season there are also direct flights between Tokyo’s Haneda Airport and Kumejima.
