If you are in the area of Yanbaru, be sure to visit the Gajimanro Café for a delightful and relaxing meal. The owner decided that the garden was too beautiful to keep to herself, so she opened the restaurant for visitors to enjoy. The interior is nice, but the best place to eat is on the terrace overlooking the garden, which is full of tropical flowers and lush greenery.
There is a an Okinawan traditional musical instrument called a shamisen available for visitors to play, a swing for children, and hammock for pleasant lounging. With only 20 seats, it is a quiet place to enjoy a meal.
In this picture, the peak on the left is called Bojimui (Bozu-mori) because it looks like the head of a priest, and the one on the right is called Kuwadakimui (Kodaki-mori) because it looks like a mother holding a child.
Gajimanro means “rich harvest.” The Gajimanro Café features local ingredients in all of its dishes. In a small plot in the rear of the garden, vegetables and herbs are grown. The cafe serves meals and deserts using these vegetables, which are made with great care and are very tasty. Especially recommended is the fresh shikuwasa juice, made from a tart local citrus high in vitamin C. Have it with the roll cake with red beans, which is flavorful and not too sweet.
There is no smoking in the restaurant, which is open from 11 am to 6pm. It is closed Friday through Sunday. It is easiest to access by car, located in Ogimi Village in the northern part of Okinawa Island.
Address is 923-3 Ogimi, Kunigami District, Okinawa Prefecture 905-1306 0980-44-3313
