It snows in Kyoto a few times each year, usually between mid-December to early-March. January to February are usually the best months for the magical transformation of Kyoto during snow but be warned, usually it melts within a few hours of falling.
The best thing to do is wake up very early and check the weather. If it is snowing, rush to whatever place you want to see with snow because it will probably melt by noon or earlier.
Some of the most striking and picturesque moments with snow in Kyoto can be experienced at a temple or shrine. Good snow spots include Daitoku-ji temple, Ginkaku-ji temple, Nanzen-ji temple and Tofuku-ji temple.

Feb 14th of 2014, Valentine’s Day in Kyoto, the country was blanketed in snow. The first stop in this video was the Hyakumanben Chionji Temple (百万遍知恩寺) This temple is not so far from Kyoto University and located just a few meters from the Hyakumanben intersection. The temple has fairly large grounds and many old and newer buildings. Next on the list was Kamigamo Shrine: A World Heritage Site in Kyoto.
