On the hill behind Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple you will find a tranquil park with cobbled strolling paths surrounded by trees. Naritasan Park 成田山公園 in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture, is a peaceful oasis where you can enjoy being outside no matter what time of year.
In springtime there is a plum festival to appreciate the flowering trees, the park is busiest at this time. The cherry trees are also lovely in bloom, but the greens of summer and the fall colors are also very attractive.
Of special note are the three ponds, one has a photogenic pavilion. Buy some of the fish food to feed the koi and relax on the bank, or enjoy exploring the paths with stepping stones across the water. There is also an excellent calligraphy museum on the grounds.
Naritasan Park is free, and only a 15 minute walk from Narita Station, which serves both JR and Keisei train lines. Because it is so close to the Narita airport, one stop away by train, it is even possible to visit if you only have a few hours of free time before catching a flight.
