Chiba Prefecture

TIME : 2016/2/24 15:51:29

Most visitors arrive in Japan through Narita International Airport in Chiba, but that is often the only part of the prefecture that they see. The common image is endless suburbs of Tokyo, which lies directly to the west, but there is actually a lot more to it. The town of Narita with its temples, parks, and historical buildings is overshadowed by the airport, and even transportation enthusiasts do not often stop by the Museum of Aeronautical Sciences nearby.

The Chiba prefecture is mostly situated on the Boso Peninsula, which protects Tokyo Bay from the Pacific Ocean. There are small fishing villages dotting the shore, which also attracts surfers and people out to enjoy the beaches. The most famous attraction is Tokyo Disney Resort, though there are museums and festivals which will appeal to visitors throughout the year. The Chiba peninsula also has popular tourist destinations such as Mount Nokogiriyama; Kujūkuri Beach; and Onjuku beach.

The Sawara Festival in Katori City, which is held in both the summer and autumn, is considered one of the finest in Japan. If you miss the festival itself, you can still learn more about it at the Sawara Festival Museum.

Why not ride an elephant when you visit the Ichihara Elephant Kingdom? This is the only zoo in Japan where you can ride on an elephant. There are elephant shows, elephant ride, and pony and camel rides as well.

With such variety, Chiba Prefecture makes a good destination for a day trip from Tokyo.
