For Hello Kitty lovers, there can be no better place than Sanrio’s Puroland. This little theme park is dedicated to the various characters developed by the company, including Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kerroppi, JewelPet and more.
The target audience is children 3-7 years old, so there are a lot of bright colors and cute details throughout. There is one boat ride, three live theaters, one film theater, four restaurants, a gift shop, and various other attractions. In the summer, there are fireworks most evenings.
There are many live events, musicals and parades described here:
The parade in 2013 is called ‘Believe‘ and the theme is “Love, Kindness, Friendship”with music, acrobatics and a parade. The Live show ‘Jewelpet Dokidoki Magical☆march‘ has Hello Kitty, Ruby, Sapphire and Gamet in a exciting show. Happy Happy Birthday Show lets kids sing and dance and have a great birthday together with friends along with many of the Puroland characters.
Hello Kitty in Wonderland has Hello Kitty acting out the classic tale of Alice in Wonderland. Kiki & Lala’s Starlit Journey is a new live show featuring the Puroland stars Kiki & Lala. Experience the Little Twin Stars universe, with 3-D visual effects.
My Melody & The legend of Star and Flower is a loving romantic musical, with My Melody and the fairies. Sanrio Character Boat Ride sets off for Hello Kitty’s castle and bring along some cinnamon rolls from Cafe Cinnamon. This is a slow boat ride and the kids absolutely love it. This is a great video of the boatride:
Jewelpet Kira☆Deco! is a musical and they are Aiming to be Idol No.1!
A new addition opened in July 2o13 called Sanrio Town and has four attractions and one restaurant. Lady Kitty House lets kids see Lady Kitty’s lifestyle including her hobby, fashion and relaxation in her kawaii celebrity house! My Melody & Kuromi’s Mymeroad Drive is a ride attraction and lets you take the Eco Melody Car, designed by Melody’s rival Kuromi, around MARILAND.
Kiki & Lala’s Twinkling tour lets you walk through ‘Dream Star Cloud ’ where Little Twin Stars were born surrounded by clouds, moons and stars. Strawberry Hall holds various events. The first being the Ichigo News Museum which lets you revisit the history of Sanrio’s many, kawaii characters.
No strollers are allowed due to the elevation changes, including stairs and escalators. However, there is a good baby room with changing tables, nursing areas, and hot water for making milk. Opening hours are variable, and the park is closed on different days, so confirm the schedule before going.
Sanrio Puroland has simplified their ticket prices in 2014 and Weekdays Passport price is Adult (18 years and over) 3,300 yen and Child (3-17 years) 2,500 yen. Holidays Passport which includes weekends, public holidays and school holidays costs Adult 3,800 yen and Child 2,700 yen. Children 2 and under are free. Getting There:
From JR Shinjuko station, take the Keio rapid line that goes to Hashimoto (the line divides into two directions at Chofu; be sure to get on the correct train). It takes about 30 minutes to Tama Center Station. There are many signs pointing to Sanrio Puroland from the station. Walk south, then turn left at the intersection with the Keio Plaza Hotel Tama. It is about a 5 minute walk. A good map can be found on the Sanrio Puroland website in English: http://en.puroland.jp/
