The Sunshine City is a huge amusement and shopping complex in the heart of Ikebukuro in the western part of Tokyo. The central feature is the Sunshine 60 building, which has one of the first observatories in Tokyo and a great view of the metropolitan area. There is also an aquarium, planetarium, amusement park, and museum. The Prince Hotels also have a branch in Sunshine City.
The two main shopping and dining areas, Alpa and Alta, are modern with many convenient features such as coin lockers, stroller rentals, ATMs, a post office, and a baby room (on the second floor of Alpa) with nursing areas, comfortable seating, and both hot and cold running water. The latter is not common in most Japanese public bathrooms to save energy.
There are over 90 restaurants throughout the complex which offer a wide range of cuisine and service to fit all budgets. The lower floors have more casual food courts, whereas the sky restaurants on the 58th and 59th floors offer luxury dining with panoramic views.
Getting to Sunshine City is easy from JR Ikebukuro station, which serves the Yamanote, Saikyo, and Shonon-Shinjuku lines. Take exit 35 and the underground passage to the Sunshine 60 building.
