Founded in 1667, the Yamamoto Honke sake brewery is still operational, though the brewing season is only in the winter months because cold is an essential part of the process. The traditional old company will provide tours, and guests can even participate in a tea ceremony or make raku porcelain sake cups as a souvenir. Another highlight is sampling sake once the tour is complete. During the brewing season, guests can try fresh sake at a fun festival.
These activities all require a reservation at least one week in advance, but are a fun addition to a visit to the Fushimi sake brewery area. Yamamoto Honke is only a few minutes’ walk from the Keihan Line Chushojima Station. For more information and to make reservations, contact: http://kyotosake.com/
There is a popular restaurant called the Shinsei Shuzo Torisei Honten within the brewery that can be visited without a brewery tour.
