A fun way to visit different sights in the Hakone area is to take the Hakone Ropeway. Ride in a small gondola and enjoy picturesque views of pirate ships on Lake Ashi, steam rising from the volcanic hot springs at Owakudani, and of course, see the majestic cone of Mt. Fuji.
The ropeway operates from 8:45 to 5:15, though in the winter hours are shorter. There are 3 legs of the trip connecting Togendai, Ubako, Owakudani, and Sounzan Stations, and all last about 8 minutes. You can ride any portion of the trip. Gondolas hold 18 passengers and run approximately one every minute, though there may be delays or complete closures in inclement weather. The entire round trip from Togendai to Sounzan costs 2340 for adults and 1170 for children. One-way tickets of ones for different legs of the trip have reduced rates.
