For great views of Mt. Fuji, Ashi Lake, and the surrounding regions, consider a ride on the Hakone Komagatake Ropeway. This popular attraction runs up a mountain by the same name, and is frequently included in tours of the region. Try to visit on a weekday rather than a weekend or holiday to avoid the biggest crowds. Be forewarned that Mt. Fuji is sometimes obscured by mist, but even so, the ride is very enjoyable.
The ropeway operates from 9 am to 5 pm daily, but may be closed during inclement weather. The trip lasts about 7 minutes one way, and there is 10 to 20 minutes between cars, depending upon the season. Each car can hold up to 101 people. The round-trip cost is 1050 for adults or 620 for children. The official website is only in Japanese: http://www.izuhakone.co.jp/ropeway/fea/index.html but they have a nice tour map in english that is very informative http://www.izuhakone.co.jp/Ropeway_E2.pdf
