Yokohama is one of Japan’s most cosmopolitan cities, being one of the first areas to open to foreign trade. It is the second largest city in Japan by population after Tokyo and is a short train ride from Tokyo. Yokohama has many attractions that make it a good destination for day trips. It has a convention center which attracts international venues and concerts, an aquarium and museums, but the most famous area is Yokohama Chinatown.
The city is home to the Central League baseball team, the Yokohama BayStars, and the soccer teams, Yokohama F. Marinos and Yokohama F.C. which is very exciting to watch with the enthusiastic and very organized fans.
Getting to Yokohama from Tokyo is easy. Depending upon the station you are departing, you can take one of several JR lines: Shonan-Shinjuku, Yokosuka, Tokaido, or Keihin Tohoku. There are also several private train and bus lines.
Yokohama weather is hot and humid in the summers and chilly, but not very cold, winters. A light sweater and a light coat resistant to water is a good choice for clothing in the winter.
The official city web page does not have extensive descriptions in English, but it does have a map: http://www.welcome.city.yokohama.jp/eng/travel/
