Journey to the Center of the Earth in Mysterious Island at DisneySea

One of the attractions unique to DisneySea, this high-speed ride is very exciting. Based on the novel Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne, passengers board shovel-nosed, rugged-looking vehicles for a trip deep underground.  Six people can ride each vehicle. The three-minute ride goes through tunnels and caverns, past glowing crystals and strange mushrooms. Odd underground creatures appear, and then the volcano erupts! All of the incredible details on this ride are impossible to see when rushing past at speeds up to 75 kilometers per hour (about 46.6 miles per hour). Though fast, the ride is smooth, with no abrupt stops or turns.

The waiting areas for Journey to the Center of the Earth in Mysterious Island at DisneySea are just as interesting as the ride itself. One area is like a lab with equipment from other journeys. Then guests take a fast elevator down to another waiting area filled with drilling machines and other equipment needed to prepare for the expedition. Lines can be extremely long because this is one of the top attractions at Disneysea, so use the FastPass option if possible.

There are many boarding restrictions: no one with high blood pressure; heat, back, or neck problems; pregnant; motion sickness; or under 117 cm (about 46 inches). It is not recommended for the elderly. The ride can be scary at times, so it is not a good choice for younger children. However, it is highly recommended for anyone who wants an exciting thrill, such as teenagers and young adults.
