This popular thrill attraction is classified as a free-fall ride, but the Tower of Terror in the American Waterfront area of DisneySea is much more than that. The ride itself is very short, with 22 people at a time seated and belted into an elevator which drops through darkness. However, the build up is just as important, and includes a complex back story about a hotel owner who finds a mysterious statue and then disappears without a trace. Before you get to the elevator, you tour the elegant New York hotel, which is full of luxurious details from 1912, when the back story occurs. Look for the gargoyles and stained glass, chandeliers and statues from the owner’s exotic vacations.
The Tower of Terror is an excellent choice for the adventurous teenager or young adult, but is not recommended for younger members of your family. There are many boarding restrictions: passengers must be over 3 years old; over 102 cm (about 40 inches); can not have high blood pressure, heat, back, or neck problems; no motion sickness; no pregnant women; and is not recommended for elderly individuals.
No photos or videos are permitted during the ride. FastPass is available for those wanting to ride. Even if you decide not to visit this attraction, you can enjoy the immense building from the outside. It has wonderful architecture that is further enhanced by a spectacular lighting display at night.
