In the center of DisneySea is the smallest theme area, Mysterious Island. Actually, it is not an island but an active volcano called Mount Prometheus, providing an atmospheric backdrop to two rides inspired by the works of Jules Verne. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is entered by a spiral staircase going downward into the lake in the middle of the volcano, and the volcano itself houses Journey to the Center of the Earth. The latter is a highly recommended thrill ride which may not be appropriate for younger children, but is a good choice for people wanting an exciting ride with outstanding special effects.
The area has no plants, and there are random geysers shooting up from the lake and blasts of steam from the rocky hillside. Aside from the two rides, there is not much else in this area, only one shop and a few food options. Even so, the feel of the volcano makes Mysterious Island seems full of energy.
