Pirates of the Caribbean
This ride in Adventureland at Tokyo Disney was the last designed by Walt Disney himself, opening in the United States in 1967. It was the inspiration of the popular 2003 film by the same name, and subsequently details from the movie have entered the ride.
The waiting line is inside Laffite’s manor house, where you board a boat setting sail in the Louisiana bayou. Soon you are plunged down a waterfall into the darkness of the pirates’ grotto. Follow the story of a group of pirates as they fight a Caribbean fortress amid flying cannonballs and explosions, are sent to prison, and escape. There is a lot of action to watch, with thrilling parts balanced by funny details.
Because there are scary details, such as a boat captained by a skeleton, this ride may not be appropriate for small children, though the park advertises it as such. There is a restriction that everyone must be able to sit stably, and no children are allowed in laps. Each boat seats 20 people and the ride takes about 15 minutes. Flash photos are not allowed
