Once you’ve been in Thailand for a while, it’s easy to become blasé about some of the sights and sounds of this unique and endlessly fascinating country. I have no idea what the figure of Donald Duck is doing in the small garden of this Thai temple in Chiang Mai and I suspect that most Thai people couldn’t tell you either. Whether it’s to encourage children to visit the wat or it’s just a bit of sanuk, the addition of a bowl of noodles just makes it ‘very Thai’. In a country where eating appears to be the national sport, heaven forbid that Donald should go hungry.
