Parts of Thailand have been preparing for expected strong winds and possible flash floods as a major tropical storm heads towards the kingdom. The weather front is part of typhoon Ketsana which wreaked havoc in the Philippines. The weather system was predicted to weaken as it crossed Vietnam and Laos, but strong winds and heavy rain are expected to hit certain areas of Thailand, particularly in the north-east Isaan region. Although it’s the north-east of Thailand expected to bear the brunt of the bad weather, low-lying areas such as Bangkok are also bracing themselves. Authorities in Bangkok have placed specialist mobile flood response units on alert as they wait for the tropical storm to blow in.
