The Tamarind Village is a boutique hotel located on Ratchadamnoen Road in the old town district of Chiang Mai. However, you don’t have to be a guest at the hotel to dine at this lovely restaurant.
To get to the main entrance to the hotel, guests walk down a small private lane which is framed beautifully by a bamboo archway. It’s very picturesque and the serene environment continues at the restaurant. Diners can choose to eat inside or outside in the courtyard overlooking the pool and hotel grounds. At night, tea lights are placed around the pool and on selected evenings there is live music to entertain guests. Fortunately, the music is in keeping with the setting and gentle classical guitar adds to the ambiance.
On my recent visit to the Tamarind Village, the staff were very attentive, polite and all spoke excellent English. The menu was a pleasant surprise because I expected prices to be higher than they were. We ordered shrimp sticks (goong sticks), fish in sweet and sour sauce (pla priao waan) and chicken in coconut curry (tom kha gai). Together with rice and drinks (non-alcoholic) the bill for 3 people came to just over 900 Baht (including service charge). The food was very good, the attention to detail was excellent and I highly recommend this restaurant to anybody visiting Chiang Mai.
