Adelaide offers a good variety of entertainment. There are loads of wineries that can be toured in the region, along with several sandy beaches to swim at and partake in water sports. You can also go bushwalking in the country or have a picnic in one of the many city parks that surround downtown.
Unique entertainment options include gambling or eating at the revamped Adelaide Casino (Australia's most elegant), while Greenhills Adventure Park and Haigh's Chocolate factory offer perfect activity options for the kids. Cafés, bars, pubs and clubs can be found in all districts of the city, including at the coast.
Adelaide Casino is a grand structure on North Terrace that is worth a look for the architecture, even if you're not into gambling. The building dates from the 1920s and is the country's nicest looking gambling den. You can play many table games here, including blackjack and roulette, as well as slots.
Many people visit Adelaide for the wine and there are dozens of wineries in the nearby McLaren Vale. The Magill Estate is in among them and produces a good red wine, while the high profile Barossa Valley is farther afield. The McLaren Vale Wine Bushing Festival in October is a must for wine lovers.
There are loads of beaches within reach of downtown and you can get to them by tram, bus or taxi. Glenelg is one of the best known and is a buzzing area of promenades and cafés, while the Grange, Brighton, and Seacliff are also worthy of a visit. Most are safe to swim at and have gently sloping shelves.
These gardens are incredibly beautiful and hail from the mid-1800s. They are near North Terrace, downtown Adelaide, and come with perfect lawns, subtropical plants and flowers, and an old, grand glasshouse. The Rainforest Conservatory is next to Adelaide Botanic Gardens.
One for the kids, here you can get on a free tour of Haigh's Chocolate and sample some of Australia's favorite chocolates. Kids can see how chocolates are made, cut and wrapped before digging into the tasty samples.
Greenhills Adventure Park is lots of fun with many activities onsite for the family including kayaking, go-karting, archery, and climbing. There are also some waterslides here and the region the park is located in - Victor Harbor – is also good for picnics.
Adelaide can't be described as a pumping town and is not as diverse with its partying prowess as perhaps Sydney or Melbourne, yet there are decent options for a drink. Rundle Street and the East End are the best bet for pubs, while Hindley Street has more of a seedy disposition.
