Tipping is not common practice in Hobart and is not expected. While people do not usually tip in restaurants, they may leave small change from the bill on the table rather than carry it around with them.
The local currency is the Australian dollar (AU$). While there are plenty of moneychangers to be found at the airport and in banks, these moneychangers charge a fee and it is worth tracking down one of the many in Hobart that do not.
There are plenty of ATMs located all over the city, especially in shopping malls and tourist areas. Most credit cards are accepted in large stores, hotels and restaurants and traveler's checks can be changed in banks if necessary.

The months of March, April and May are the best times to visit as the weather is cool and dry. Summer runs from December to February and this is also a good time to visit, although the temperature often rises to 21°C during this time and rain showers are not unknown.
Hobart is a small city and most of the attractions can be reached on foot from the city center. However, there is also an extensive public bus system which is run by Hobart Metro. Routes run all over the city, and most buses depart from the Metro City Bus Station, which is next to the main Post Office.
It is possible to take a bus from Hobart International Airport (HBA), and the journey from the airport into the city center takes around 15 minutes. Taxis also wait outside the main airport entrance and can be taken to destinations in and around Hobart.
