Finding a unique hotel for that special occasion can be difficult with all the choices out there. One website that is geared towards helping you do that is Directory of Hotels.com.

Directory of Hotels.com is a Canadian based website providing hotel reviews for luxury properties around the world. Created in June 2006, Directory of Hotels.com allows a user to search for recommended hotels via region, then zero in on the location of choice using a drop down menu.

Navigation is easy and the site uses ‘bread crumbs’ to allow you to backtrack to where you started, for example Home » Europe » Italy » Rome » Hotel Locarno. According to the ‘About Us’ section of the site; “Directory of Hotels.com is an independent guide of hotels and travel information created by a team of people with a love for travel. We are funded by membership contributions made by the hotels listed in our directory. The hotels within our directory represent something unique, special enough to give it our stamp of approval.”

Directory of Hotels.com focuses on hotels and resorts that offer unique locations, combined with a high level of luxury. Budget options include Bed & Breakfast places in Europe and the US.

A monthly newsletter is available online, featuring what’s hot, what’s not, from boutique to resort, restaurant hot spots to glowing nightlife, shopping and cultural local insights.

New additions to Directory of Hotels.com list are highlighted in The Hot List, which is updated regularly. Directory of Hotels.com founder, Tanya Schliff writes a travel blog called TravelerWIRE, which is ‘all things travel’ including hotel reviews, luggage tips and other original tips.

As a whole the website is obviously still growing and will take some time to do justice to the wide area it covers. Hotel reviews are basically light overviews, which are particularly useful for people looking for a unique hotel to fit that special occasion.
