Flinders Chase farm is a charming and comfortable place to crash for the night or a week. It is on the west side of Kangaroo Island almost at the entrance to the National Park. No matter your budget, Flinders Chase Farm has an ideal place to lay your weary head. Originally, and still, a working sheep station, Steven and Kerryn Childs keep busy running the accommodation part of their property as well as their sheep. My only regret is that I didn’t have longer to stay and enjoy all that the Farm and Island had to offer.
There is a Hostel style bunk house in what was their original farm house. Several rooms are available sleeping 2-10. A main lounge room with Television, shared bathrooms, and a Huge outdoor communal kitchen and bbq area are all attached. Around $20/night pp.
The next step up in accommodation for $60/dbl are two purpose built cabins that have their own kitchen, and fantastic deck for sitting and watching the world go by. The cabins utilize the shared bathroom facilities with the Hostel.
In the originally designed bathroom facilites, there was plenty of hot water, and they were clean, well maintained, and attractive as an added bonus.
If sharing a bathroom isn’t your thing, there is also ensuite motel-style accommodation for $80/night. There is a main building that has a second kitchen/bbq facility, ping pong table, TV area, fireplace and stunning viewing deck to watch the abundant local wildlife. A very cozy and peaceful place to stay.
Linens and kitchen utensils provided, bring your own food supplies. The nearest limited grocery supply is at the near bycaravan park. Since the family also work with the sheep, if you can not reach them by phone or email ahead of time, leave a message.
If you do show up late with out a reservation, on the main house, there is a board with pins that show which rooms are already booked. Working on an honor system, you may take one of the rooms that is unmarked and leave your money in an honesty box located beneath the board. Trully a labour of love, the Childs work very hard to ensure a comfortable and unique place to stay. email: [email protected], ph:08 8559 7223, fx: 08 8113 2026
