Sydney- Need Internet? Head to the Rocks!

TIME : 2016/2/25 11:39:13

dsc01986.JPG Everyday Thousands of people visit and conduct business in the most Historic Precinct in Sydney- The Rocks. Honestly- this is one of my favorite parts of town. When I first arrived I avoided it because I thought there would be too many tourists. Man was I missing out!

What I soon discovered is that the Rocks is a visually striking place- right at the foot of the Harbour bridge (in fact you can walk up stairs to the bridge itself!). The markets are awesome, there are TONS of cool bars that mostly locals attend, and it is much closer to Circular Quay than I thought. Over all- it is a really popular spot. Now there is one more reason to fall in love with the oldest part of Sydney- FREE… yes- that is right FREE wireless Internet access!

The Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority thought it would be a good idea to keep up with the Joneses- namely other major metropolitan cities- and introduce Free Internet in The Rocks. Now visitors can check email and business people can conduct meetings at the many cafes. The Hotspot ranges from First Fleet Park in Circular Quay to Cumberland Street and from the Harbour Bridge to Alfred Street.

Anyone with a notebook, PDA or other Wi Fi device can have free connectivity for 30 minutes. Users will be directed to www.therocks.com The Foreshore’s website.

How to connect:

  • Turn on your laptop/device.
  • Plug in or turn on your WiFi card,
  • Search for available wireless networks,
  • Choose The Rocks HotSpot
  • Open your Internet browser,
  • Enter your details,
  • Read the terms and conditions, and
  • Click accept to connect.
  • Happy Surfing! The picture is the QE2 parked in front of the Rocks. Pretty cool eh?
