Surry Hills is one of those challenging areas of a big city. Fun shops- bohemian cafes well kept areas… right next to the areas you shouldn’t go alone late at night. The neighborhood is developing an arty feel and emerging from it’s seedy reputation…. slowly.
Crown street- is an area worth an afternoon wander. Benzin Thai- featured earlier, is located on Crown. Fun second hand stores, café’s, ethnic eateries, boutique shops and a few old buildings of historic significance line the sidewalks.
Most notably on Crown Street- is one of the best Organic/health food stores I have encountered in Sydney. Simply called Organic Produce, they did a gorgeous coffee and had more than 3 gluten free options as well as a little something for most people with eating issues. Vegan, dairy free, yeast free, etc. A small shop- they did have a limited selection of dry goods on offer as well. 487 Crown Street Surry Hills. 02 9319 4009. www.organicproduce.com.au.
Another fun Cocktail bar/restaurant near Crown street is Longrain. www.longrain.com.au/ A Thai eatery- you sit at long communal tables. Extremely popular- they make really nice fresh cocktails that utilize local fruits. yum!
