Local charity raises funds at Charity Golf event
The annual Rotary West Golf Classic event will be held on Sunday 25th May 2014 at 1:00pm at the Country Club at Sandy Lane Hotel.
The Rotary Club West through partnership with Diamonds International and Sandy Lane, is the primary fundraiser that supports The Rotary West scholarship. The sponsorship was designed to provide university funding for a student who had acceptance at University, but could not attain funds to attend. The programme differentiates itself from other scholarships as it focuses primarily on the needs of the students rather than on academic achievements. Many of the recipients have to overcome serious social problems as well as a challenging financial situation. The value of the scholarship is to a maximum of BDS$15,000 over the course of study (3-4 years).
Over the past 12 years the Rotary West Scholarship Program has catered to facilitating a tertiary education for deserving students and has disbursed a total of over Bds$150,000 in scholarship funds.
Due to the substantial support from partnership with Diamonds International and Sandy Lane, funds from the Golf Classic have also contributed to other major projects. This includes projects at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, specifically the refurbishment of the Pediatric Ward in 3 phases, the construction of new Renal Dialysis and Medical Intensive Care Unit Suites. Funds are also allocated to the upcoming construction of the Inclusive Play Facility at The Gymnasium Complex (in conjunction with Rotary Club of Barbados South).

Miss Shaneanoh Carter was The Rotary West 2013/14 Scholarship winner. Shaneanoh is pursuing a BSc Degree in Chemistry in the Faculty of Science & Technology at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus. The awaredee is currently enrolled in the second year of the four year programme.

Rotary West meets weekly on Tuesdays at 6:00 pm at Bagatelle Great House.
