Anne Frank’s original writings come home
This year marked the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Anne Frank House, Amsterdam’s most visited attraction, and now people who tour the famous house will also get to see all of Anne’s surviving diaries and manuscripts. All the documents that remain were returned to the Anne Frank House last month and are now on display.
Littered Amsterdam ends garbage collection strike
A new agreement between city officials and Amsterdam’s striking garbage collecting union should mean trash pickup will resume immediately. Garbage had been accumulating in piles in some parts of the city, which some worried would negatively impact summer travel to Amsterdam this year.

There’s a photo exhibit at the city archives in Amsterdam, the Stadsarchief, showcasing pictures of the city from the first days of photography: 1845-1875. The exhibit runs through June 27.
Amsterdam tickled pink by Giro d’ Italia cycle race
Amsterdam played host to the start of this year’s Giro d’Italia bike race last weekend. The riders spent a few more days zipping over Dutch roads before heading south to Italy. The Netherlands is also set to host the starts of the other two major cycling Grand Tours this year – the Tour de France in July and the Tour of Spain in August.
Dutch boy who survived crash is back home
The sole survivor of the airplane crash in Libya, a 9-year-old Dutch boy, is now back home in the Netherlands.
