Italy can be one of the more expensive European countries in which to travel – but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have a grand time in Italy on a budget, or that all of the country’s top sights charge hefty admission fees. In fact, many of the main attractions are either free or cheap, and there are all kinds of free things to do in Italy besides the big-name sights.
This is particularly great news for shoestring budget travelers who choked when they saw the cost of many flights to Europe (especially Italy, which is almost always more expensive to fly into, for reasons which are completely beyond me). You can certainly save money by staying in hostels in Europe when you travel, but Italy also tends to be more expensive in this department as well. Which is all the more reason why seeking out the free attractions in Italy is a good idea.
I’ll keep adding to this list as I write about more of the freebie sights in Italy, but in the meantime let these guides help you stick to your travel budget and still have a fantastic trip.
