Hole-in-one in the heart of the Costa del Golf
With over 100 golf courses in Marbella and its surrounding areas to choose from, this Spanish city has become one of the top golf holiday destinations in Europe. With many Marbella golf courses designed by top players combined with the guaranteed climate, it’s not hard to see why so many golfing enthusiasts are choosing here as their preferred choice of holiday.
Golf courses The golf courses on the coast offer a mix of terrains, conditions and difficulty allowing everyone from beginners to pros the chance to play a few holes. The most well-known courses include Valderrama, which is perhaps the most famous golf course in Europe and has hosted the Ryder Cup, the Volvo Masters and the American Express Championships; Marbella Golf and Country Club, which was designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Senior to make the most of the stunning surroundings and natural terrain; La Cala Golf Club, was designed by renowned golf course architect, Cabell B. Robinson, and is the largest on the Coast with three 18 hole courses; El Chapparal Golf course, which was designed by Pepe Gancedo and is one of the more challenging courses.Spas
Partners of golfers who want to be able to relax while their other half is on the course can find plenty to keep them occupied even at the courses themselves. Many Marbella golf courses have a spa within the club and top-class restaurants to while away afternoons waiting for players to finish. La Quinta Golf Club has a fantastic spa and restaurant, as does Finca Cortesin which even has the only snow cave in southern Spain. Climate Marbella enjoys fabulous weather almost all year round with over 300 days of sunshine a year, so you can normally guarantee a pleasant day on the course. However during July and August the temperatures can rise to well over 30 degrees Celsius so many golfers prefer to play very early in the morning or at twilight, if at all during these months.Where to go after a day on the course
After a long day hitting balls around a course, there’s nothing more rewarding than an enjoyable evening with some delicious food and a great atmosphere. Marbella boasts a huge number of restaurants offering everything from fine dining to buzzing tapas bars. After a sumptuous meal why not head to one of the great bars offering live music? Or for the hard core party animals, the nightclubs in Puerto Banus and Marbella are open until the early hours. Accommodation The choice of accommodation in Marbella is extensive. For golfers who want the course on their doorstep, choose La Quinta Resort or Villa Padierna next to Los Flamingos (also chosen by Mrs Obama no less), while the Marbella Club and El Oceano offer a little luxury on the beach for when you’ve finished on the course. If you would rather not be in a hotel then renting an apartment or villa couldn’t be easier and is very reasonable and increasingly popular.
