TIME : 2016/2/24 9:18:09

Alicante ranges from traditional, historic neighborhoods to purpose-built seaside resorts, offering rooms with a view of glistening ocean or terraces overlooking a rustic Spanish square. The city’s historic quarter is lined with boutiques, high street stores and five-star dining, plus locally-run bars, cafes and open-air markets. There’s a matching hotel whether you want to rub shoulders with the marina trendsetters, enjoy family life by the beach or talk football in a typical tavern.

Gothic buildings, an imposing Baroque cathedral, traditional squares, boutiques and markets are some of the eye-catching attractions in Alicante’s Old Town. This vibrant area of the city is popular for its shopping, historic buildings, vibrant nightlife and cuisine, while being convenient for bus and train connections and only a few minutes’ walk from the beach.

Not surprisingly, many historic buildings have been restored into chic boutique hotels, while budget hotels and hostels can also be found along with international chains. Hotels in this area are right in the center of Alicante’s action, and some boast the best restaurants in the city.

Alicante beaches and marina

Alicante’s 320 days of sunshine each year mean many people head straight to the golden, sandy beaches. The city center Postiguet Beach is lined with restaurants and bars with the additional bonus of being next to the swanky marina. San Juan de Alicante is another popular resort with safe beaches and family-friendly restaurants.

From luxury four-star spa hotels to budget holiday apartments, the beach resorts shine when it comes to accommodation. Small hotels offer a friendly, personal service while larger hotel chains have extra facilities such as Wi-Fi, gym and restaurant. Families may prefer to rent an apartment on a complex with communal pool.

Alicante Airport

Nearly 10 million passengers fly into Alicante airport each year, so an overnight or short stop at a nearby hotel is often a great option, particularly for the early morning or late evening flights. The airport is just 11kms from Alicante city center, with good bus and road links, so this can be a convenient base for exploring the wider region and visiting destinations such as Elche, Torrevieja, Benidorm and Murcia.

Several well-known international hotel chains can be found next to the airport. They offer accommodation for all budgets and some include airport transfers. The hotels tend to be modern and fairly large. Other hotel chains can be found alongside the main N332 road running close to the airport with great links to the major Alicante resorts.
