Family Friendly Attractions in Bath

TIME : 2016/2/23 17:42:34
Bath isn’t just about genteel Georgian charm and trendy shopping. It also boasts plenty of attractions for the whole family, whether your kids love messing around in futuristic play parks, exploring wide open green spaces, or being treated to some thrilling theatrical entertainment.

Parks and gardens

It can be hard to find safe, pristine, and genuinely beautiful play parks in city centres - except in Bath, which benefits from a wealth of public green spaces based only a few minutes walk from the central sights.

Dating back to 1829, and known locally as Vicky Park, this vast emerald oasis is the perfect place for the family to frolic and relax. Enjoy a picnic on soft, sweeping grass, before taking the kids to the 18-hole mini-golf course. Then, onto an adventure playground - full of swings, slides, climbing frames, and zip wires - and watch them go wild.

Botanical Gardens

Adjoining the main expanse of Vicky Park, you’ll find the Botanical Gardens, an impeccably manicured 9-acre stretch of exotic flowers, aromatic herbs, and leafy trees. In this tranquil area, kids can explore the rock garden and mock-Roman temple, while you amble along the stress-free pebbled paths and enjoy some peace and quiet.

Exciting entertainment

Bath’s family-friendly atmosphere prospers in its entertainment scene. The centrally located alternative cinema puts on special film viewings for families - whether you’re bringing your sleepy newborn or energetic toddler - and the thriving theatre community extends its welcome to children as well. The Egg

The Egg is a cosy theatre that caters to family audiences, with a variety of shows for age groups ranging from tots to teens. Whether you want to treat your kids to a magical puppet show or an inspiring drama, The Egg won’t disappoint. It's also well-rooted in community, supporting schools through its Young People’s Theatre scheme, which creates an even more welcoming atmosphere.

Days out

Much of Bath’s surrounding countryside is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and hides intriguing attractions waiting to be explored. Bath’s central train station and bus terminal act as great transport links to nearby towns and villages.

Only 20 miles south from central Bath, you’ll find Longleat Safari and Adventure Park. Kids - and adults - can marvel at majestic lions, towering giraffes, and slithering snakes. Drive through the monkey park, say hello to the penguins, and cap it off by exploring the winding world of the iconic hedge maze.

Family dining

When all the sightseeing gets your clan's tummies rumbling, don't worry – there's a good choice of family-friendly eateries to get stuck into in Bath. Fussy eaters will be well catered for too.

Situated in the recently renovated SouthGate shopping mecca, this is a fun family hangout boasting a wide menu that'll satisfy the most indecisive eaters. Serving breakfast through to dinner - from bowls of fruit granola to plates of high-stacked burgers - Giraffe is ideal any time of day. There’s plenty of high-chairs for the little ones, too.

Brasserie Blanc

Treat your toddlers to classy cuisine at Brassier Blanc, located beside the central Queen Square. Here, kids can enjoy their first excursion into fine European cooking, and chose divine yet relatively inexpensive dishes from a playfully designed kids-menu. Whoever said French food had to be stuffy and formal?
