The Kazimier

 

This hip bohemian bar hangout is one of Liverpool’s hottest live music hubs. The spacious stage, high ceiling, and open dance floor give the impression of a mini-concert hall, but - although it can pack in a huge crowd of music-lovers - it remains a cosy area, where you can get right up to the stage and see the bands. Expect a mix of alternative and indie-rock, synth-sounds, and hip hop.

The Caledonia

 

For a more traditional live music venue head over to the Caledonia, a classic late night pub with a warm and welcoming crowd of tourists, locals, and musicians. Everyone grabs a few drinks, gathers their chairs and tables, and crowds round the small stage area, which hosts fine jazz, old world folk, and toe-tapping rockabilly almost every night of the week. Expect boisterous laughter, loud applause, and spontaneous pub-wide dancing.

Mansion Liverpool

 

This swanky chandelier-clad nightclub is the place to be on a Saturday night. The huge floorspace provides plenty of room for dancing, while the upper-floor provides terraced seating of leather sofas and luxurious VIP booths with bottle service. Mansion doesn’t only play club classics, but also sees some of Liverpool’s best independent house and dance DJs spin discs. Remember, Mansion is a bit classier than other clubs - so lose the trainers.

Berry and Rye

 

One of Liverpool’s best-kept secrets, Berry and Rye may be tricky to find, but once you’re there the effort will be worth it. Hidden behind an unassuming shopfront, through a battered black door, this Prohibition-style speakeasy is a haven for cocktail enthusiasts. The huge whisky selection and a stellar list of other-worldly house cocktails - ask to try the rum-based Merchant - blends with the blues music and candles to create an uber-cool atmosphere.

Theatre

 

Liverpool isn’t all about bars and clubs. If you’re after an easy-going evening of more traditional entertainment, head to one of the city’s many theatre venues

 

Liverpool Empire Theatre

 

Located centrally, this is the epitome of grand entertainment. Behind the white stone facade lies an enormous theatre hall, with steep sweeping seating enclosed by rich golds and reds. Wherever you sit you have a clear view of the stage, and the theatre showcases a whole range of entertainment, including touring theatre, ballet, and live comedy.
