The pedestrianized 16th Street Mall in Downtown is a popular shopping and leisure spot, and it's easy to see why. A wide, tree-lined promenade heaving with shoppers, buskers, pedicabs, and other colorful touches, it's home to a smorgasbord of big name brands and high street favorites. You'll also come across lots of small, locally owned boutiques offering vintage inspired, shabby chic clothing and homeware. To goes without saying there are plenty of spots to stop and eat, and there's even a free bus you can hop on and hop off whenever you feel like it.
Castle Rock
Those who love fashion, but don't want to spend all their holiday money on new shoes and dresses, will do well to flock to the Outlets at Castle Rock. This sprawling open-air mall is just south of the city, with dozens of outlet and factory stores where you can lay your mitts on big brand clothing at discount prices. The mall itself has clean, pedestrianized streets, with a sandy toned bricks, and palm trees creating a southwestern style. The backdrop of the Colorado mountains just adds to the atmosphere, making it a cut above usual out-of-town malls.
Highlands Square
In the northwest part of the city, Highlands Square offers a cool and unique area to shop, with historic storefronts turned into boutiques. The area often hosts farmers markets and food fairs, and has a great small town vibe – complete with colorful awnings. It's the perfect antidote to the gleamingly modern malls, with quaint charm and an eclectic selection of stores. Whether you're after handicrafts from the Far East or specialist wines from Europe, not to mention rare and second-hand books, you'll enjoy poking around the square.
Shopping tips
Parking in Downtown can be difficult. However, the free MallRide shuttle bus runs from early in the morning until late at night, with major stops across the city. Some of the larger malls offer shopping tours, especially if you are traveling in a group, and in addition to extras such as valet parking or buses, you will often be treated to a discount card or other freebies.
